Sunday Night At The London Palladium

Sunday Night At The London Palladium

Back in the 1950s and 1960s, the London Palladium was a source of comedy, dance and variety, hosting mainly the ITV variety show Sunday Night At the London Palladium. Over the last few years, it became the home of various very creepy looking 'child-catchers' such as Wayne Sleep and Stephen Gately, as the stage version of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang took over. At the moment, Tommy Steele is strutting his stuff in a christmas season rendition of Scrooge, and in a couple of weeks you'll be able to enjoy nights with Frank Sinatra 'LIVE' at the Palladium thanks to a bit of fancy technology.

BUT, forget Brucie, Tommy & Frank..

For indie fans, this is potentially one of the most exciting gigs and venues for ages! Everyone’s favourite moody rockstar, Morrissey, has today announced that he’ll be taking up residency at the Palladium for 3 Sundays in May.

We hope he’ll be properly entering into the Sunday Night At… vibe and indulging in a bit of tap dancing and stand-up as well as performing some cheerful party numbers on the mic. Hope is a fine thing though, as Londonist will probably eat its well thumbed copy of the Guinness Book of Hit Singles if Morrissey does any tap dancing.

The tour coincides with the release of his new album Ringleader of the Tormentors (cheery huh?!) in April and you can see him shake his stuff in Manchester or Scotland if you can’t make the London dates.

Otherwise we’ll see you on either May 15th, 21st or 28th, clutching our tasty book with a glazed look in our eye (c’mon he is still wrongly attractive!).

Tickets go on sale Friday at 9am. Get that redial finger ready!
