Comedy Preview: War on Want charity gig, Thursday 21st
Wow, look at all them comics!

We wanted to promote tomorrow's charity comedy night for War on Want at Shepherds Bush Empire for two reasons. Firstly, because it is going to be a spectacular night, with some remarkable comedians, in aid of a very good cause. And secondly, because their press release contains a line which, lacking as it is in context, had us giggling like children for far longer than is socially acceptable:

"Alexander Armstrong and Ben Miller, with their catchphrase 'I'm wearing my wife's knickers'..."

Of course we know that they're talking about the characters in their TV series, rather than it actually being their catchphrase, but let's pretend that we don't, and all revel in the childishness of it all.

We've been fans of Armstrong and Miller since their days at MTV, so in our opinion it would be worth the £20 ticket just to see them. The fact that you also get Lee Mack, Jo Caulfield and Shazia Mirza makes this an essential night out. Plus, two newcomers in the form of Jack Whitehall and the superb Josh Howie, two comics with an increasingly strong presence on the live comedy circuit. By anyone's standards, that's a very strong line-up.

War on Want, as most of you will know, is a charity which fights and raises awareness of poverty, sweatshops, corporate accountability, the power of supermarkets, and the privatisation of public services in poverty stricken countries. You'd be wise if you gave twenty of your pounds to them without anything in return, so to do it in exchange for a great night of fun is definitely a good idea.

The War on Want Comedy Benefit is on Thurs 21st at 8pm (doors 7pm) at Shepherds Bush Empire, W12. £20. Book in advance by calling 0844 477 2000, or at TicketWeb.
