The entire capital weeps today, as Londonist presents its final round-up of the week's best Edinburgh Festival previews. You can show your respect by going to these shows and seeing some great comedy at super-cheap prices:
Monday 21st: A free gig tonight, from four superlative new comics. In their show Homework for Heroes, they discuss acts of heroism in everyday life, and play with interactive games to create a heart-warming night of comedy. The show features Broderick Chow, Tom Goodliffe, Helen Arney, and Nat Luurtsema, who we interviewed at length a few weeks ago. If you like feel-good, thoughtful and experimental comedy, definitely go to this show. (Broderick on YouTube). Lord Palmerston, 33 Dartmouth Park Hill, NW5. 8pm, free entry.
Tuesday 22nd: Come now, you don't really need us to tell you why you should see Stewart Lee and Simon Munnery try out new material for £6, do you? Simon will be trying new ideas for his Annual General Meeting, a regular Edinburgh fixture and essential entry in any comedy fan's diary. Meanwhile, Stew's show, Scrambled Egg, plays with old and new ideas for a TV show. Nights like this are truly what make London the best city in the world for live comedy. Wednesday 23rd: A delightful double-bill tonight. Londonist favourite Richard Sandling (who we interviewed a few months back) puts the finishing touches to his show Video Nasty, a show made for true movie lovers, packed full of geeky film references and belly-laugh comedy. Joining him is Tom Bell, who will explore why so many great rock stars die aged 27. Tom is getting a big following on the indie scene for his feel-good surreal thoughts, so make an effort to see him tonight. (Richard on Google Video). Saturday 26th: Theatre in Kennington tonight from Gerry Howell (yes, the same one we interviewed. Our finger is all over the pulse!), who takes a break from stand-up to preview his most recent play, an amusing tragedy called Butter No Parsnips. Two lovers are forced to confront some uncomfortable truths - thanks to an Avon Lady. Gerry's theatre work is always tender and thoughtful, and we're 100% sure that this show will be a triumph.
