Preview: Greenwich Comedy Festival

Buxton disappears beneath his beard
If you fail to get your fix of comedy at a fringe this August you're in luck. Weary, skint and hungover comedians will be converging on Greenwich in early September for a bumper crop of gigs in a spectacular set of venues. Oh, and Up The Creek, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary. Time for a spruce up, maybe?

Shows are already selling out so check out the line up now. Rob Newman's been gestating a new show for months, lovely Ardal O'Hanlon's appearing and that Russell Howard will have staggered back from the Tundra by then. Then there's Jo Brand, Mark Thomas, Sean Hughes (where's he been since Buzzcocks?) and former Greenwich man, Arthur Smith. John Hegley's comedy poetry turn endears us to opening night and one half of our 6music favourites, Adam Buxton, and his increasing hirsuteness is slightly scaring us away from 11th September. See what suits you though, with big names aplenty and all act info here.

Greenwich Comedy Festival runs 7-13 September in the grounds of the Old Naval College, at the Greenwich Theatre, The Royal Observatory, Greenwich Picturehouse and Up The Creek: for more info and to book visit www.greenwichcomedyfestival.co.uk.
