Last Minute Listing: Bat Tour Of Tower Hamlets Cemetery

091709BatTour.jpg We like Tower Hamlets Cemetery, one of London's magnificent seven cemeteries, and are squeaking with excitement at tonight's Last Minute Listing taking place there tonight: a free guided bat walk around the graveyard. This will be the last guided walk in the cemetery for 2009 and it's going to involve a bat detector (whether that's a person or a mechanical gadget, we don't know...) seeking out the ultrasonic sounds of these flying mammals.

There will be much to learn about their habitat and habits too, and the chance to see them in the wilds of East London. As a long-range precursor to Halloween, this is a winning combination of early evening exercise, education, socialising and scaring the pants off yourself. Turn left out of Mile End station and take the second right for Tower Hamlets Cemetery, the tour starts at 6.40pm. Dress warm, wear sensible shoes, bring a camera and thought it won't cost you a penny, donations are always welcome for this cheerful, cherished cemetery. For more information, go to the Tower Hamlets Cemetery website - check out the Open House info therein.
