Comedy Preview: David O'Doherty @ Soho Theatre

david_odoherty.jpg David O'Doherty, 2008 if.commedie winner and fan of very little keyboards, is at the Soho Theatre from now (yes, now! Actually, since yesterday but we didn't get our arses into gear in time) with the show that debuted at this year's Edinburgh Fringe, David O'Dohparty.

He's one of the nice blokes of comedy, blending whimsy and wordsmithing with observational comedy. But he's probably best known for songs about the tiniest of subjects, broken down to their constituent parts and examined from odd angles, all with incredibly long sentences backed by the cheap accompaniment of a Casio of dubious age and quality. O'Doherty has a wonderful turn of phrase which, if we were feeling lazy, we'd try to put down to his Irish roots; but we're not, so we'll attribute it to a fine, enquiring mind and a gift for the ridiculous. Oh, and he likes pandas.

David O'Doherty is on at the Soho Theatre, 21 Dean Street W1, until 5th December (not 29th) at 9.30pm, £12.50 / £15 / £17.50. Get more information from the Soho Theatre website.
