So you've been hearing about this "summit" on "climate change" in "Copenhagen". You've also been hearing about "falsified data" coming out of "East Anglia" (yes, we know we're going crazy with the quotation marks; if you listen to the denialists, everything's contentious, including geography). If you're a little befuddled by what's going on, you might want to watch An Inconvenient Truth and have it all explained by a smooth American politician. Or you could go to the Soho Theatre and watch pretty much the same talk, but with gags, given by an endearingly ramshackle Welshman.
In 2007, Mark Watson was one of 100 volunteers who attended Al Gore's climate change training programme. He's got the same slides as Gore uses in his film (which he's amended with the enthusiasm of the first-time Powerpoint user) and he's trying to spread the word to the unsure and ambivalent. To be honest, if you know a bit about climate change you might be better off going to see his stand-up work-in-progress later in the evening, but the 'lecture with jokes' is still an interesting and amusing way to spend an hour, and also to remind yourself of the data (the comparison between scientific papers questioning climate change, and media articles doing the same, is eye-popping).
Be prepared to get a bit involved though; Watson wants us to all pitch in with this together, and in such an intimate space as the Soho Theatre Studio it's a bit awkward when he can't even find a volunteer to keep track of the doom-levels of the presentation. Oh, and also get there at least five minutes before the start so you can watch him type comments into a screen-projected Word document as other people walk in.
