Comedy Ticket Alert: Dylan Moran

dylanmoran.jpg There are comedy previews galore right now, and while we're loving discovering new funny people in their more unguarded, noteflipping moments, Dylan Moran is on a whole other scale. Usually only to be found in the vast caverns of the Hammersmith Apollo and West End theatres, he's doing three nights at the (relatively) intimate Leicester Square Theatre next week. It's all a bit hush-hush - he's not doing a run at Edinburgh this summer and from what we gather, this is a try-out for a big new tour later in the year. Given that Moran's shtick is the loveable, shambling rogue, the added frisson of new material could cause the whole evening to descend into chaos - but what glorious chaos it would be.

Yes, he might be equal parts movie actor and comedian these days and getting a bit squidgy round the edges, but the lyricism of his stand-up remains unsurpassed. With Black Books getting long overdue repeat airings on More4, this is the perfect opportunity to find out what he's like without a camera. And if you've seen him live before - you probably stopped reading ages ago and have already bought your tickets.

Dylan Moran at the Leicester Square Theatre, 27th-29th July 8pm, £15.
