It's the week of intellectual debate announcements. Following on from the Future Human discussion about data journalism and the upcoming TEDxObserver, the new line-up of Big Ideas evenings has been revealed.
Big Ideas events, as often celebrated on these pages, have four ingredients (i) a question - often either an age-old point of philosophy with a modern twist, or a key issue currently under national debate; (ii) an expert in the area, to set the scene with a brief talk; (iii) an audience full of questions and comments; (iv) a bar stocked with booze drinks.
The 2011 programme (up to July) looks a little something like this:
- 22 February: Is Work Central To Being Human?, Nina Power
- 29 March: What is the Role of Religion in US Political Life?, Tim Stanley
- 26 April: Cooperation, Richard Sennett
- 31 May: What is Criticism in the Arts?, Andrew McGettigan
- 28 June: Do Organisations Have Minds?, Caroline Pelletier
All events take place upstairs at The Wheatsheaf, 25 Rathbone Place, W1T 1DG, at 8pm. Admission is free and there's no booking in advance... put 'em in your diaries now, then just turn up!
