- The traditional Turkish oil wrestling was last weekend but there's still plenty to see at the Anatolian Cultural Fair on Clissold Park, N16 until it ends with whirling dervishes on Sunday
- The Royal Ballet perform Romeo and Juliet at the O2. RomeO2 as it's being nicknamed. Go!
- Tickets are just a fiver for Open City London Documentary Festival at UCL
- Shows and musicals go back to back in 20 minute slots for West End Live in Trafalgar Square
- Proms at St Judes, Golders Green starts this Saturday with nine days of midsummer music, evening and lunchtime concerts plus walks and talks.
Friday:
- Party late at the British Library which goes 'Out of This World' on the sci fi theme with the Radio Science Orchestra and art students wielding tin foil or similar. Tickets £12.50, 7.30-11pm.
- Madness play Meltdown in the Royal Festival Hall at 7.30pm, tickets £25-40.
- Spoonfed clubbing recommends Scandalism at the Nest, N16 10pm-4am, £5 in.
Saturday:
- People go free to the Dashing Dog Show at Kensington Palace (dogs £10). 10am-5pm.
- Help break the world record for the biggest bee hotel at Barking Riverside.
- There's a big book sale for Amnesty in Blackheath, SE10 10am-5pm.
- Catherine AD's doing Daylight Music at Union Chapel, Islington between 12-2pm, free.
- Fingers crossed Myatt's Midsummer Fair isn't a washout... expect music, dancing and a bake off between 1-5pm in Myatt's Fields, SE5.
- You might want to swap the free Panama hat for an umbrella if you're going to the Ricard Petanque Garden Party at Chelsea Physic Garden. Boules, BBQ, cocktails and a wonderful venue, all free (get there early) from 11.30am-6pm.
- The Big Mix is 'music + more' in aid of McMillan Cancer Support. Tickets are £20 for live music and comedy, art, disco, fashion and cabaret at various venues around Spitalfields and Shoreditch. Midday till late.
- Slideluck Potshow is a novel mix of food and slideshows at Snap Studios, New North Road N1 from 7pm. You take some food, they supply the drinks and art. RSVP on Facebook.
- The Great Drag Race sees men in frocks run 10k in Highbury Fields to raise awareness of prostate cancer and quids for Prostate Action. Fun starts round noon and there's entertainment till 6pm.
- So Not Barcelona at Big Chill Bar, Brick Lane is consolation for anyone who wishes they were at Sonar. Free entry, 8pm-3am.
Sunday:
- Marylebone Summer Fayre means a food fest on Moxon Street, music in Paddington Gardens, Jive Nation on Devonshire Street and much more between 10am-5pm.
- The sixteenth London Dragon Boat Festival brings amazing dragon boats to the Thames at Royal Albert Docks Regatta Centre, E16 between 10am-5pm. Free entry and fun all afternoon.
- The Vauxhall Art Car Book Fair parks up at Truman Brewery, Brick Lane E1 to flog celebrity artworks out the back of a banger. Perhaps you'll pick up a Gavin Turk egg for £25? If you just want to have a nosey, it's £3 in between 12-6pm.
- There's music, dance, food and fun to be had on Portobello Green, W10 to celebrate Westway Development Trust's 40th birthday. Free and family friendly, midday to 8pm.
- Dress up types: join the 1940's 'high summer' tea dance in a mansion house on Portland Place. £12 tickets, or more for a cream tea and professional tart up: 6-10.30pm.
- London Pleasance Edinburgh previews start today.
