Monday 8 August
MAGAZINES: Do you enjoy nothing more than curling up with a good magazine? Head along to the Book Club in Shoreditch tonight for an evening devoted to the old-school medium. FREE, 7pm

BOOKS: If you're more of a novels person, head along to the Science Fiction Book Club to discuss Babel-17 by Samuel R. Delany. Or take a look at their books for upcoming months so you can read up for a future event. The location is only given to members, but you can join free via Meetup.com. £5, 7pm

SERENDIPITY: Lucky you chanced across these listings, otherwise you'd have missed tonight's SameAs event dedicated to the harnessing of serendipity in the digital world. Guardian Tech star Aleks Krotoski is joined upstairs at The Driver in King's Cross by co-founder of Lanyrd Natalie Downe and Kat Jungnickel from the University of East London. FREE, 7pm

Wednesday 10 August
MICRO-MANUFACTURING: This month's Future Human event at the Book Club looks at the coming revolution in making things. Will technologies like 3-D printers democratise the manufacturing industries over the next 10 years? £10, 7pm

Thursday 11 August
BRAINS: This month's Salon London – events that blend arts, science and psychology – sees Iain McGilchrist describe the battle going on in our brains, literary agent Clare Conville dissecting the Booker list and science author du jour Michael Brooks discussing his latest book about the naughty habits of scientists. The cerebral fun takes place at Westbourne Grove Church. £10, 7pm

Friday 12 August
COMEDY: Square Eyed at the Etcetera Theatre promises ever-so-slightly geeky sketch comedy about the launch of a new TV station. Also showing on Saturday and Sunday as part of the Camden Fringe. £7.50, 4.30pm

Saturday 13 August
SCI-FI: The regular beer session of the London Science Fiction and Fantasy Meetup Group takes place in the Mad Hatter pub. FREE, 6pm

MAKING: It's Power and Production weekend at the Southbank Centre, which promises hands-on sessions of 'making, fixing and hacking'. Events include:

Doctor Who In Comics: The Cartoon Museum shows off 100 cartoon stories featuring the ever-popular Timelord. Ian Visits has a review. £5.50 runs until 30 October
