- Join the massive free street party that is Notting Hill Carnival on Sunday and Monday, with all sorts of events around the edges - read our tips to having a good time (free).
- Hackney WickED move their artists into Shoreditch's Red Market for a Wicked Weekend of art, music, grafitti, sandcastles and of course, food on Saturday and Sunday from midday till 11pm (free entry).
- Take the family to the Alternative Village Fete at the National Theatre on Sunday and Monday afternoons (free).
- Watch the Hell's Belles Ladies bike polo tournament on Friday and the London Open bike polo tournament on Bethnal Green Gardens on Saturday and Sunday (free).
- Enjoy The Ranelagh's Folk and Ale Festival in Bounds Green (and if you're up that way, you could explore the area with this walk).
- Or try the Cider Festival at The Alma, N1.
- Get cerebral at the Mind Sports Olympiad.
- At the Proms there's Peter Grimes, mixed bill concerts, Broadway, free bits and a family matinee on Monday (tickets from £5).
- It's the final weekend of Camden Fringe - we recommend Making Faces but there's loads of shows to choose from (tickets from £5).
Friday:
- There's live music and drop in drawing sessions at the National Portrait Gallery late shift until 9pm (free).
- The Luna Cinema's showing Flash Gordon in Battersea Park from about 8pm (£12.50).
- Watch the 1948 film The Red Shoes on the National Theatre flytower from 9pm (free).
Saturday:
- Support Joe Morris on his 24 hour guided tour of London, raising money for the Rob Knox Foundation, starting at Aldwych, 8.30am.
- Play boules in Camden (free).
- Try Edible Cinema at the Aubin and watch Spirited Away as you're served cocktails and food at 4pm - also Sunday at 9pm (£20 pp).
- Indulge a guilty pleasure watching Desperately Seeking Susan at the Troxy, Limehouse from 8pm (tickets £18).
- Get in the Carnival spirit with Paraiso School of Samba in the Royal Festival Hall from 7.30pm (free).
- Games Makers get free entry to Club De Fromage and Old School Indie at the 02 Academy Islington and Academy2 with their Olympic ID.
Sunday:
- The Mauritian Open Air Festival takes place in Down Lane Park, Tottenham between noon and 8pm with music, dancing, funfair, face-painting, beer and more (tickets £6.50, under 10s free).
- Get on your bike with the Camden Sky Ride over Hampstead Heath from 2pm (free to join).
- Indulge in some Ecotherapy at Spitalfields City Farm with free gardening sessions and a homegrown lunch from 11am-3pm (free).
- Play boules in Tufnell Park (free).
- Bookstock 2012 is family friendly and free with live music, Djs and a fancy dress competition from noon till 8pm on Leonard Street (free).
- Try the CarnivAle Festival with London Craft Beers, a cider bar and jerk chick on the BBQ at the Sebright Arms from noon.
- Boxpark hosts a Carnival Jam on the Upper Deck to mark the end of their LDNxLDN exhibition between 1-4pm (free).
- Oxjam Clapham launches at Secondo with a party from 7pm (£3 adv, £5 door).
Bank Holiday Monday:
- Sign up for or watch Sports Day at the Royal Vauxhall Tavern from 1pm to 6pm at Vauxhall Spring Gardens (donations).
- The Finale of the Shoreditch Fringe takes over Hoxton Square with street theatre, comedy and music from noon till 7pm (free).
- Old Spitalfields Market hosts the second annual Paw Pageant from 1-3.30pm (free to watch, £5 to enter your dog). You'll also find Judy's Vintage market there from 11am-5pm.
- Go Disco Loco in Springfield Park, Clapton E5 from 12-6pm (£5).
