- BT London Live is free to access in Hyde Park and Victoria Park with Olympics on screen and live music plus there are big screens in Potters Fields, Walthamstow Town Square, General Gordon Square Woolwich plus on the Lewisham Big Screen on Blackheath, Hackney's big screen on Haggerston Park and on Camden Beach (free entry).
- Greenwich Summer Festival presents the Family Weekender on Saturday and Sunday with a kids' concert, village fete, side shows, music and the Olympics on the big screen from 11am till late (free entry).
- Exhibition Road Show is open all day Saturday and Sunday with cultural, artistic, literary and scientific edification and entertainment outdoors in South Kensington (free).
- Have you had a poke around the National Hospitality Houses yet?
- The Ping Pong Weekender at Rich Mix offers a screening of new documentary Ping Pong plus use of tables for play from 1pm and 5pm on Saturday and Sunday (£12).
- Camden Fringe festival is in full swing with stacks of comedy, theatre, opera, dance and spoken word performances across 14 venues (tickets from £5).
- The International Alternative Press Festival brings small press zines, comics, poetry and book people together at Conway Hall for two days of exhibitions and workshops between 11am-5pm (tickets £3, each day).
- Immerse yourself in Genius of Hitchcock at the BFI.
- Africa Fashion Week is just two days long at Spitalfields Market, Friday and Saturday (free entry to some shows, £7 standard entry).
- There's loads of good, free stuff going on down the Southbank, with Flavours of India Festival, Real Food Summer Market and Watch This Space outdoor performances at the National Theatre (free).
- The William Morris Gallery reopens to the public with Grayson Perry's Walthamstow Tapestry on show (free entry).
- Things are youthful at the Proms with Ulster Youth Orchestra, National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain and National Youth Orchestra of Scotland all playing the Royal Albert Hall, plus there are various free Proms Plus events around the main concerts, including a Saturday late.
Friday:
- Things are Utterly Elegant at the V&A from 6.30pm — part of Exhibition Road Show (free).
- Celebrate 50 years of Jamaican independence with a massive reggae club night at East Village with the Rootikal & Reggae Roast Independence Party from 9pm-3.30am (tickets £5).
Saturday:
- The Women's Olympic Triathlon takes place in and around Hyde Park from 9am (free).
- Last chance to see the Art Cars in Shoreditch (free entry).
- Bouncy Stonehenge visits Burgess Park (free).
- The Mayor of London's 2012 Showtime festival will showcase performances in Hackney Town Hall Square, Mare Street from noon till late afternoon (free).
- Watch the Olympic Men’s 20km Race Walk from 5pm (free).
- Drop into a charity concert at St James’ Piccadilly where young musicians play works by works by Mozart, Tchaikovsky, Ives, Copland and Tavener from 7.30pm (donations/tickets on the door).
- See dance company Akademi perform Bells on Turnham Green Park, Chiswick from 9pm (free).
Sunday:
- Watch the Olympic Women’s Marathon wind through the capital from 11am (free).
- Bouncy Stonehenge visits Barra Hall Park, Hillingdon (free).
- Brixton Splash in Brixton Town Centre celebrates SW2 with music, kids stuff, crafts, jerk chicken and marks 50 years of Jamaican independence from noon till 7pm (free).
- Watch the biggest film to come out of Jamaica, The Harder They Come, at Portobello Pop Up Cinema as their Staycation series of movies gets underway (£5).
