London Stand Up And Sketch Comedy: 6-12 January

Where to find funny this week

Sunday 6 January: Prepare for the first full week of 2013 with Sara Pascoe, Sanderson Jones, Pat Cahill, Gayle Tuesday, Romesh Ranganathan and Ian Smith at Amused Moose on Great Portland Street (7.30pm, £5).

Monday 7 January: Our New Year recommendation to you would be to catch Hils Barker's clever and simultaneously silly comedy, sometimes avec guitar as seen below. Head to the Ku Bar near Leicester Square for Monday's 99 Club, also with Robert White and Caroline Mabey (8pm, £10 on the door / £5 online).

Tuesday 8 January: Tom Rosenthal off Friday Night Dinner, Edinburgh Newcomer winner Daniel Simonsen, improv-ers Do Not Adjust Your Stage and one-third of WitTank Naz Osmanoglu are in Putney for Gits and Shiggles, hosted by Luke Benson (7.30pm, £5 / £7).

Wednesday 9 January: We agonised about picking one of these gigs over the other and couldn't: raise funds for the Edinburgh Free Fringe at Bloomsbury Theatre with Phill Jupitus, Kevin Eldon, Robin Ince, Simon Munnery, Norman Lovett, John Otway and Howard Read (7.30pm, £15 / £12.50) or watch Nick Sun, perhaps the most bonkers act we saw all last year, headline ComComedy at the Queen of Hoxton (8pm, £7). Also on the bill are Mae Martin, Rob Carter, Ryan Cull, Chris Bett and Grainne Maguire with Luisa Omelian MCing.

Thursday 10 January: Question Time comes from Lewisham this week, but more fun will be had in Hackney with BBCQT Watchalong. Helen Arney, Nish Kumar and Radcliffe Royds join Nat Guest for drinking, shouting, tweeting and Dimbledancing (8pm, £5 / £4).

Friday 11 January: Claudia O'Doherty (pictured) is doing another run of her surreal, deliberately ramshackle and hilarious show The Telescope at the Soho Theatre (9.15pm, £12.50 / £10). We saw it in October and loved how it built to an uncomfortable and hysterical climax.

Saturday 12 January: Tom Craine is one third of fabulous sketch group Jigsaw and an excellent stand up in his own right. He's trying out new material at the Pleasance (8pm, £5).
