Things To Do In London This Weekend: 5-6 January

SHORTS: The London Short Film Festival opens at the ICA on Friday night with a free party in the bar and comedy shorts in the cinema (£10/£8). The festival runs at LOADS of indie venues and cinemas until 13 January. Check the website for programme and booking info.

NUTCRACKER: Watch a free performance of the dance of 'The Nutcracker' in the lecture theatre at V&A at 11am, 1pm and 3pm.

FUNNY FILMS: Screwball Season has begun at the BFI — Bringing up Baby is just one of the films on show this weekend.

SKATE: It's the last weekend for the seasonal ice rinks at Natural History Museum, Somerset House, Tower of London, London Eye, Westfield (east & west), Hampton Court Palace and Winter Wonderland so .... get your skates on if you want to try them.

LAST CHANCE TO SEE: The Turner Prize exhibition at Tate Britain, The Body Adorned: Dressing London at Horniman Museum (free), Ballgowns at V&A, Shoot! Existential Photography at Photographers' Gallery and Cabaret Mechanical Theatre at Space Station Sixty-Five in East Dulwich (free exhibition, apart from four coin operated machines).

Saturday 5 January

MARKET: The Dandy Lion Market sets up in the Oxford pub, Kentish Town with art, craft and vintage. Free entry, from 12.30 to 5.30pm.

WRAP UP WARM: For a rare opportunity to visit 19 Princelet Street, the Museum of Immigration. Free entry but donations welcome, open between 2-4pm.

FOLK IT: The Grand Midwinter Folk Ball at Chats Palace, Homerton E9 offers you the chance to dance off Christmas learning French folk dance with a free class at 8pm and two top French groups playing live. Tickets £8 advance, £12 on the door, 7.30pm-midnight.

DOSEY-DOE: Join the London Barndance Company in a traditional hoe-down at Cecil Sharp House. Tickets £10, starts 8pm.

Sunday 6 January

BE GODLESS: It's free to join the congregation at the Sunday Assembly at The Nave in Islington from 11am.

WASSAIL: Say Farewell to Christmas at the The Geffrye Museum in the garden between 3.30-5pm, join in Twelfth Night Celebrations with the Lions Part on Bankside from 2.45pm or tend to the trees and drink mulled cider at the Memorial Orchard at East Greenwich Pleasaunce from 11.30 till 3pm. All free to attend.

DISCO: Go disco dancing with all the family at Disco Loco at Bethnal Green Working Men's Club. Entry £3, babies free, between 3-6pm.

JAZZ: The Tea Box in Richmond present an evening of Swing Jazz with vocalist Isabel Saunders. Tickets £5 in advance, £6 on the night. Email info@theteabox.co.uk
