The Southbank Centre opens its doors 8-10 March to celebrate all things XX (chromosome) related, to co-incide with International Women's Day on 9 March.
Women of the World (WOW) is a staggering collection of events covering as wide a range of themes as there are women. You can hear the BBC's Stephanie Flanders on the state of the economy, members of The Archers on the soap's women, Rosie Boycott on fighting global poverty through business, or Helena Kennedy and Julie Bindel on pornography. There are panels on science, Jane Austen, misandry, sex, rape, fat and hair. If it's famous names you're after, Julie Walters, Ruby Wax, Alice Walker, Naomi Wolf and Sarah Brown all make appearances.
Some events we think you shouldn't miss:
- Sandi Toksvig's Mirth Control, an evening of comedy and music back by popular demand
- Former PM Gordon Brown talking to Ziauddin Yousafzai, father of Malala, who was shot by the Taliban for campaigning for girls' education
- Comedian Bridget Christie doing her show about feminism and misogyny
- Regular spots throughout the weekend for the Under 10s Feminist Corner
- Free speed mentoring sessions, where you can talk to four amazing leaders in their fields for 15 minutes
- WOW Hack Day, actually a two-day marathon coding event with the results presented on Sunday
You can buy a three day pass or separate passes for each day, but be aware that some of the evening events are ticketed and priced separately.
