Things To Do In London This Weekend: 6-7 April


EXPERIMENT: See something at SPILL Festival of Performance. There's stuff going on at Toynbee Studios all day Saturday and Sunday, get a SPILL day pass for £20. Check the brochure for more information.

FREEDOM: The Let's All Be Free Film Festival starts on Friday at Brunel Gallery, SOAS exploring freedom through documentary, shorts and fiction. Free, but register to reserve tickets.

PENAL COLONY: Become a penal colony tourist with Project Colony at Trinity Buoy Wharf. Wrap up warm and become immersed in this site-specific performance across two buildings based on Franz Kafka's novel In The Penal Colony. Tickets £16, £14 concessions. Pre book. Saturday at 3pm and 7.30pm, Sunday at 7.30pm until 27 April.

FILM: Explore Warp Films at 10 and Pier Paolo Pasolini this month at BFI Southbank.

BIRDS EYE VIEW: BEV 2013 is celebrating Arab Women Film makers with film screenings, director Q&As and live music at BFI, Barbican, ICA and Hackney Picturehouse until 10 April.

PROMENADE THEATRE: Experience a site specific homage to the cult classic film Four Rooms in Peckham. Tickets to Four Rooms of Refuge are £12, concessions £8, prebook. Starts 8pm Saturday, 4pm Sunday

SCIENCE: Celebrating 100 years of the Medical Research Council, the Strictly Science exhibition offers hands-on experiments and gadgets, talks and demonstrations showing the medical advances of the past, present and future. Runs in the Exhibition Road foyer of Imperial College until 14 April. Free, just turn up,10am-6pm

WARHOL: Watch three rare, newly restored Warhol films at the ICA.

Saturday 6 April

PILLAR BOXES: The British Postal Museum and Archive hold a special open day on Pillar Box Perfection as part of the Loughton Festival (we had a tour of the place in 2011, look). Free, drop in, between 10am-4pm

DEAF DAY: CityLit host Deaf Day with exhibitions, workshops and entertainment geared to everyone who is interested in deaf issues, including a performance from Deaf Men Dancing at noon (tickets £1). Free entry, drop in, from 10am-4.30pm

CRAFT FAIR: Balham Craft Fair sells textiles, clothing, jewellery, hats and fascinators, bunting, skin care products, toys, stationery, bags, cards and more at the Bedford. Free entry, just turn up between 12-5pm

PILLOWFIGHT: It's International Pillow Fight Day, if you like that sort of thing. Feathers will be flying in Trafalgar Square for the London event between 3-4pm

DOCTOR WHO: Steve Cole, Terrance Dicks, Ben Aaronovitch, Justin Richards, Jonathan Morris and Gary Russell celebrate Doctor Who’s 50th anniversary at Waterstones Piccadilly. Tickets £3 in-store or £4.50 via Facebook, starts 3pm

BAGS OF BUNTING: Experience an alternative Ceilidh with Reach For The Bunting at St Mark's Church, Hackney. Take a dance lesson first, or just show up ready for Ceilidh fever. Music comes from the Ceilidh Liberation Front. Tickets £10 or £12.50 with lesson (+bkg) in advance, £15 or £12 respectively on the door, lesson at 7pm, main event at 8pm

COMEDY: Mark Thomas headlines Live at the Chapel, with Tim Key, sketches from Cardinal Burns, Alun Cochrane MCing and Will Franken. Tickets £18 / £16, prebook, starts 7.45pm

MARKET PARTY: Harringay Market is having a party to attempt to "usher in spring" with live music, dancing and kids' activities alongside the usual stalls at South Harringay Primary School, N4 from 11am-3pm

ALTERNATIVE EASTER: The Sunday Assembly celebrates a godless alternative Easter a week late at The Nave, St Paul's N1 with two services and two inspirational speakers. Free, just turn up at 11am and/or 1.30pm

URBAN WATERWAYS: Celebrate spring (fingers crossed) at Camley Street Natural Park with the Urban Spring Festival. Meet waterway wildlife, learn canal craft, do some gardening, pond-dipping and more. Free, just turn up, from 11am-5pm

VINTAGE FAIR: Frock Me! sets up at Chelsea Town Hall. Admission £4, NUS £2, open from 11am-5.30pm

BRAINS: Head to Barbican for the first day of their three-day Wonder Street Fair looking at all things brain related through fun, free activities. Free, just show up, open 12-6pm

CABALCADE: Admire retired black cabs from the past five decades at Marble Arch with the Vintage London Taxi Association. Free, just turn up, from 2pm
