Richard Curtis Among Screenwriter Lecturers At BFI And BAFTA

bfi_070813Five big-name screenwriters will give a talk each in London in September, as BAFTA and the BFI's Screenwriters' Lecture Series reaches its fourth year.

The topic under discussion will be decided by each writer, but the breadth of experience and genre is intriguing. Richard Curtis is, of course, best known for his rom coms like Four Weddings and Notting Hill, but we'd bet cold hard cash that his talk will likely tend to his other passion, drama with a political conscience (he's one of the driving forces behind Comic Relief, you know).

Expect insight into making an intelligent blockbuster from David S Goyer (Man of Steel, the Dark Knight trilogy) and Tony Gilroy (the Bourne films, Michael Clayton). Susannah Grant was Oscar and BAFTA nominated for her Erin Brockovich screenplay, and she's also written In Her Shoes, 28 Days and Charlotte's Web. Hossein Amini is an adaptation master, having brought Jude, The Wings of the Dove, Killshot and Drive from book to screen.

You can get an idea of what to expect from previous lectures, available on BAFTA's Guru website.

Lectures take place at the BFI Southbank or BAFTA on Piccadilly between 23-30 September. Tickets cost £10 and are now available to BAFTA and BFI members; the rest of us can book for Richard Curtis and Hossein Amini on Friday 9 August and David S Goyer, Susannah Grant and Tony Gilroy on Tuesday 13 August. For more information and to book, see the BAFTA website.
