This weekend, the Change: How? event creates a 'festival of ideas' for anyone who cares about changing society for the better. In the words of event organiser Compass: "500 People. All Parties. All People. One Amazing Programme. And A Bar."
The mostly left-leaning speakers are drawn from politics (Sarah Teather, Jon Cruddas, Natalie Bennet...), journalism (Zoe Williams, Helen Lewis...), campaign groups and others who work for a better world. But the organisers are keen to stress that the event is open to ideas from the floor, with plenty of opportunities to make your own voice heard.
The session formats are unusually diverse for a conference-style event. The backbone consists of panels, interviews, debates and pecha-kucha, but the programme also includes stand-up comedy, local walks and street photography.
Also unusual, and welcome, is the low cost. At just £20 a ticket, £10 concessions (or £30 if you have the money and want to help subsidise the concessions), this is excellent value for a full-day's programme with some top-notch speakers.
