ART: London Art Fair fills Islington's Business Design Centre with modern British and contemporary art for five days from Wednesday. Day tickets are £13 advance or £17 on the door, on Saturday and Sunday it's open from 10am

SHORT FILM: London Short Film Festival runs until Sunday showing shorts all over town at venues including BFI Southbank, ICA, BAFTA, Curzon Soho and Dalston Rio. Tickets range from free to £10.

MIMEFEST: London International Mime Festival is underway – read our preview. Check out the huge programme which runs till 1 February and book tickets now.

SNOOKER: Masters Snooker is being played out at Alexandra Palace. Watch the best players in the world pot those balls (or find somewhere to polish your own skills). Booking until Sunday 19. Tickets for afternoon session £15+bkg, all day £25+bkg, sessions at 1pm & 7pm

BEHIND THE SCENES: There are a few tickets left for a tour of Horniman Museum's off site store, the Study Collections Centre. Tickets £10, prebook, 2.30pm

NETBALL: Watch England play Jamaica in the International Netball - Tri Series at Wembley Arena. You can also see England A team play Wales as a warm up show. Tickets \from £17.75-£28.75, prebook, first match 4pm, main event 7pm

WASSAIL: Toast the trees in Rotherhithe at Brunel Museum's Wassail with live music and singing and the Midnight Apothecary on hand to fix you warming concoctions, whether with or without alcohol. Wrap up warm, this one takes place in the garden. Tickets £5.50 inc bkg, prebook, 6.30pm

SINGING: Crouch End Festival Chorus marks its 30th anniversary with a concert at Barbican, premiering new work when my brother fell into the river... alongside some psychedelic sounds. Tickets £12.50-£28, 7.30pm

CEILIDH: Burns Night celebrations start early with the everso popular Ceilidh Club at Hammersmith Town Hall (Friday and Saturday night). Most celebrations are next week, check them out here.  Tickets £28.50/£15 +bkg in advance, prebook, get there early to avoid queues, 8pm

Sunday 19 January

CHINESE FESTIVAL: To mark the end of the V&A exhibition Masterpieces of Chinese Painting 700-1900 a Chinese Festival of painting, paper and performance with music, storytelling, dance and crafts takes place at the museum. Free, some performances ticketed - check full listings here, 12-5pm

TIME OUT:  Classic Album Sundays return with Dave Brubeck's Time Out playing at The Princess of Wales, Primrose Hill. Tickets £8 on the door (or prebook), 6pm

TYPOGRAPHY: Discover the signage of Dalston with a Type Safari, now partially inside for winter! £20, 6.30pm
