London's Greatest Experiments: An Interactive Map

After his voyage round the world as a naturalist on HMS Beagle, Charles Darwin concluded that

It is a sorrowful but I fear all too certain truth that no place is at all equal, for aiding one in Natural History pursuits, to this dirty smokey town.

Based on the number of scientific breakthroughs that were made in the capital, it seems he was right, and London is still the home of many scientific institutions, each with its own storied history of invention.
