Local Photos And Famous Faces At Richmond Literature Festival

Meet Dame Jacqueline Wilson

The great and good of the literary world head west this month for Richmond Literature Festival. It draws some big names for a month of books, words, talks and ideas.

Sadly, tickets for Peter Dazeley's foray into Unseen London have long since sold out, but local photographer Andrew Wilson talks about his photo book, Richmond's Open Spaces, with Joanna Jackson, who wrote another local historical photography book, A Year in the Life of Bushy Park.

Actress Sheila Hancock will be discussing her debut novel Miss Carter's War with biographer, journalist and lecturer, Anne Sebba.

Pottery designer Emma Bridgewater runs an evening of pottery and stories, based on her autobiographical book, Toast & Marmalade and other stories, and authors Naomi Wood and Richard Skinner take a biographical journey into the lives of two of the most original artists of the early 20th century: Ernest Hemingway and composer Eric Satie.

The Richmond Shakespeare Society bring Shakespeare's story to life in their performance featuring some of his many characters, accompanied by Elizabethan music.

It's a good'un for kids too, with children's and teen author and Kingston local Jacqueline Wilson making an appearance. She's just published her 100th book, Opal Plumstead, so is well placed to talk about her career and some of the characters she's created. Younger wordsmiths can take part in a Story Stew with children's author Mary Evans, a creative writing workshop to get their imagination running.

Richmond Literature Festival runs 2-29 November. Prices for each event range from 1p to £25, and tickets need to be prebooked, although several events have already sold out. See the full line-up.
