The London Boat Show comes to ExCel Centre

ANTIQUES FAIR: The Mayfair Antiques and Fine Art Fair takes place at The London Marriott Hotel. The 44 exhibitors specialise in everything from furniture to clocks to paintings. £10 on the door, 8-11 January

BOAT SHOW: The London Boat Show takes place at ExCel Centre, with big names in the boating world including Sunseeker International and Fairline Boats exhibiting. Listen to nautical talks, see the latest cutting-edge products, explore world debut boats and meet famous faces from the sailing world. The 4D experience gives you a chance to immerse yourself in the world's oceans, from the Arctic to the Tropics. £10-£30, prebook, 9-18 January

CIRCUS: Circus, theatre and music meet in Fall/Fell/Fallen at Southbank Centre, starring acrobat Sébastien Le Guen and musician Jérôme Hoffman, who focus particularly on balancing acts. £18, prebook, 10-11 January

EXHIBITION: Bruce Castel Museum in Haringey hosts an exhibition about the Chinese workforce present in the borough. The exhibition is connected to the Chinese Workforce Heritage Project. Free, until 5 July

CHEWING GUM TOUR: Artist Ben Wilson is best known for his paintings on… discarded pieces of chewing gum. Today, Art no Cube runs free tours on the Millennium Bridge exhibiting his most prized artworks. Free, prebook by emailing [email protected],10.30am/11.30am/12.30pm

BOROUGH FILM LOCATIONS: CoolWalks lead a free walk around Borough, following the footsteps of Dickens, Bridget Jones and Harry Potter to get up close and personal with the streets and buildings of Borough and Bankside that many familiar films have used as their backdrop. GUIDED WALK: Take a guided walk with the theme Churches, Corners & Corridors. Venture down little alleyways and hear about how a court jester built the oldest church in the City, and an exploding dragon. £10/£7.50, prebook, 1.30pm

CRAFTERNOON CABARET: Head to The Book Club in Shoreditch to start your year of makery by creating your very own handmade pincushion and needle case. While you're getting crafty, watch performances by new and established acts on the cabaret and comedy scene. £12, prebook, 2pm

ARTIST TALK: Turner prize-nominated artists Jane and Louise Wilson discuss the influences on their new video installation Undead Sun at the Imperial War Museum, commissioned to mark the centenary of the First World War. £7/£5, prebook, 2.30pm

NATIONAL GALLERY: See a screening of Frederick Wiseman's latest documentary, National Gallery, at Barbican — confusingly. The film goes behind the scenes at the National Gallery, looking at the institution's relationship with staff, the public and the paintings it houses. ART TALK: Assistant Curator Emma Enderby leads a tour of the exhibition about Julio Le Parc at the Serpentine Sackler Gallery. Free, just turn up, 3pm

FOOD POETRY: The theme of today's afternoon poems at Keats House in Hampstead is food poetry. If you haven't had your fill of food over Christmas, go along to hear culinary words from the Keats House Poetry Ambassadors. Free with entry ticket, just turn up, 3pm

ORPHEUS AND EURYDICE: 47/49 Tanner Street in Bermondsey hosts an evening of poetry, music and art, leading the audience into an immersive Underworld to explore the story of Eurydice and Orpheus. The event offers a first insight into the Œ (orpheus & eurydice) project, which will culminate in a publication and a full scale theatrical production later this year. £11, prebook, 6.30pm

COMEDY: Al Murray hosts a fantastic line-up, including David Baddiel, Ava Vidal, Andrew O'Neill and Bec Hill, at Bloomsbury Theatre to raise money for young people’s sexual health charity Brook. £20+fee, prebook, 7pm

WITCHCRAFT FILM: As part of London Short Film Festival, Hackney Picturehouse screens Haxan: Witchcraft Through The Ages. The silent film explores the history of witchcraft, demonology and satanism, accompanied by a live score from Filmphonics. Followed by club night Salt. Sweat. Sugar. £10, prebook, 7pm

THE SMITHS TRIBUTE: The Smyths, the UK's top Smiths tribute band, play at O2 Academy Islington, celebrating the 30th birthday of the seminal Meat is Murder album by playing each track from the classic album, as well as a greatest hits set. £15, prebook, 7.30pm

FOUR LONDON POETS: Poets Wendy French, Brett Van Toen, Agnes Meadows and Richard Rickford perform their work at Rich Mix in Shoreditch. Free, jut turn up, 8pm

QUEER VEGAN DISCO: Queer Vegan Disco is a monthly dance party in Wood Green hosted by blogger Fat Gay Vegan. The night features back to back pop, top 40, indie, alternative and dance tunes played by a rotating line up of DJs. Second Saturday of every month. £5 on the door/ £3 when you RSVP on the Facebook event, 8pm

CLIPPER BOATS: The Clipper Round the World Yacht Race is visiting St Katharine Docks, and invites you on board one of its specially designed race yachts to take a closer look at one of the biggest challenges of the natural world. THAMES WALK: Led by guide Mark King, stroll along the lovely Thames Embankment looking at how London’s mighty port and global sea routes were affected by hostilities during the First World War. £6-£15, prebook, 10.30am

BOARD GAMES: Throughout January and February, visitors to the Museum of Brands and Advertising in Notting Hill on a Sunday can play board games in the museum's cafe for free. Have a go at classic and vintage games including Connect 4, Jenga and Mastermind after your trip around the museum. Included in admission price, just turn up, 11am-5pm

MADE IN CHELSEA: In this walk, hear about the writers of works which range from Mary Poppins to Dracula. Learn about Sir Thomas More's Utopia and what Oscar Wilde said when he saw actress Ellen Terry come for her portrait to be painted by John Singer Sargent. £10/£7.50, prebook, 2pm

CITY BLITZ: Museum of London runs a guided walk focusing on the effects of the Blitz on the City of London. Hear about the second Great Fire of London, how St Paul's survived and the history that was uncovered by the destruction caused. £10.50/£8.40, prebook, 3pm

POETRY PRIZE: Hear readings from the poets shortlisted for the 2014 TS Eliot Prize at Southbank Centre. Ian McMillan comperes the evening; Helen Dunmore chairs the judging panel, accompanied by two other judges, poets Sean Borodale and Fiona Sampson. FILM TRILOGY: The first of three consecutive screenings of Jon Sanders films takes place at Hen & Chickens Theatre in Highbury and Islington. Low Tide is shown tonight, one of the trilogy of films shot in Kent. £25 for all three screenings, prebook, 7pm
