40 Gluten-Free Beers To Sample At Canal-Side Pub

BrewDog's Vagabond pale ale is gluten-free. So are 39 others...

Earlier this year we compiled a list of where to find gluten-free beer in London’s pubs and bars and found that — although there are quite a lot of pubs which do stock a gluten-free option — most of them all serve one of the same few brands.

In a bid to show there’s plenty more where they come from, foodie events company Gluten Free Gathering is laying on a gluten-free beer tasting next Wednesday (13 May), with no fewer than 40 beers available.

The event will be held at Maida Vale gastropub The Truscott Arms and will be hosted by Kim McGowan — who has written about London’s best gluten-free restaurants, shops and street food for Londonist — along with beer sommelier and blogger Jonny Tyson and gluten-free beer specialist Sue Cane.

As well as giving attendees the chance to taste all 40 of the gluten-free beers, there will be a tutored tasting of a small selection of them, a general discussion on what gluten-free beer is and how it’s made, and gluten-free bar food courtesy of The Truscott Arms — including scotch eggs and beer-battered fish and chips.

We recently investigated whether there's such a thing as decent non-alcoholic beer and will be attending with a view to asking the same question of gluten-free. Perhaps some of London’s craft beer pubs will send representatives down too, as we reckon they need to pull their socks up when it comes to stocking interesting gluten-free options.

The event runs from 7pm and coincides with Coeliac Awareness Week. Tickets cost £25 and are available through Edible Experiences.
