Aspiring architects aged between eight and 14 are being prompted to build their own pavilions this summer, in response to the Serpentine Pavilion that pops up every summer. Two lucky winners will win an iPad for their efforts.
The brief is simple: design and build a model of a summer pavilion that could host events and a café. The model needs to be no bigger than a football and no smaller than a tennis ball. All you need is some scissors, something sticky (sellotape, glue, Blu-Tack) and any other materials you fancy. Suggestions include cardboard, paper, Plasticine, lolly sticks, plastic straws, wire, thread or string, that kind of thing. Then upload photos of your designs to the Build Your Own Pavilion website.
Two winners (one for the 8 to 10 year olds, and one for the 11 to 14 year olds) will receive an iPad pre-loaded with 3D CAD drawing software. Plus runners-up will be awarded an architecture tool kit packed with books and creative materials.
If this sounds like the perfect wet weather activity for the end of the school holidays, head over to the Build Your Own Pavilion site where you can find guidance, images, videos and more.
