Get Mucky On The Foreshore For The Big Thames Tidy

Londonist is proud media partner to Totally Thames.

A month of Totally Thames activities get underway on 1 September with The Big Thames Tidy.

Join experts and volunteers from Thames21 and take a closer look at the health of the river, joining in collecting and counting litter on North Greenwich Peninsula.

Not only will you have fun and feel good taking part in this conservation effort you'll be contributing data to Thames River Watch, which monitors the health of London's biggest waterway. We made a video about this Thames21 project earlier this year — watch it below.

The view from this little-trodden stretch of foreshore will also be pretty good, looking directly out to Canary Wharf and seeing the Thames Clippers rounding the peninsula.

Wellies, gloves and other equipment will be provided to help you fish bits of junk, plastic and lost treasure from the mud. And it does get very muddy near the water so dress appropriately and watch your step or you might lose a welly in the mire!

The Big Thames Tidy takes place on 1 September in North Greenwich between 9.30am-11.30am. Free to join in but please book in advance so they know how many pairs of wellies, gloves and bin bags to bring.

Totally Thames runs throughout September. Enter our competition and you could win a VIP Totally Thames experience.
