"Bowie, Bowie, Bowie!" they were chanting in Brixton last night — as if the man himself were about to make an appearance.
He didn't of course — he never will again — but his music lived on, on the streets of his birthplace Brixton, as fans burst into renditions of Space Oddity, Let's Dance and Starman.
Flowers were placed, candles lit at a mural of Bowie on the side of Morleys department store, while the Ritzy cinema played tribute with their marquee, which read: "David Bowie Our Brixton Boy RIP".
