Mayoral Election Digest: Who's Been To The Kebab Awards?
Sian Berry and fellow Greens campaigning at Barking this week.

The mayoral election officially began this week, which means everything is getting nastier by the day. We're here to parse what you might have missed, with added snark. Because frankly it's starting to be the only way we can cope.

They said what?

The five main candidates did an hour-long debate on LBC this week. You can watch the full thing here — or if you can't be bothered, here's a precis: 'you're dangerous/useless' (Khan/Goldsmith), 'immigration' (Whittle), 'hey, we actually have some policies' (Pidgeon/Berry) — but we couldn't not share this:

Zac Goldsmith launched his housing manifesto and did an interview with the Guardian where he talks a lot (and we mean a lot) about how much he really, really hates Sadiq Khan.

Khan himself has been at the Pride and Patchwork hustings, as well as attending the Kebab Awards (no word on whether he's a donor or a shish man). Oh, and it turns out he's not particularly friendly with Jeremy Corbyn.

The Greens have launched a widget where you can see how much they say you'd save on your commute if they made London one fare zone. Be warned that you have to enter your email address before you can run the numbers, and we bear no responsibility for any mailing list you might end up on.

Caroline Pidgeon has been talking to/at an old lady in Camden about her plans for combating London's crappy air quality.

Do you rent?

There's a debate organised by three housing campaign organisations — Generation Rent, Priced Out and Renters' Rights London — specifically about private renting in London on 29 March at Conway Hall. Only two candidates have promised to turn up, and they're the only two who rent themselves: Sian Berry and Peter Whittle. Labour, the Conservatives and Lib Dems are sending deputies, and we leave you to decide what that says about their commitment to London's private tenants.

If you can't make it, we'll be hosting a video of the event later in the week.

Elsewhere on Londonist

We interviewed Sian Berry, very much didn't interview George Galloway and reminded you to register to vote, because otherwise what's the point of any of this?
