BANK HOLIDAY: Yup, it's a three day weekend, so take a look at our bank holiday page for ideas of things to do whatever the weather and whatever your budget. There's also a cute picture of some goats.

BEER FESTIVAL: Want to drink beer all bank holiday? Course you do. Get your pint-based pleasure at The Priory Arm's beer festival this weekend, in South Lambeth. Expect keg bitters, British cask ales — even cider's getting involved. Check their Twitter page for times and prices, until 2 May

DOCTOR WHO:  Fill yourself with Who at The Cartoon Museum at this exhibition of over 30 pieces of original Doctor Who artwork. It's the first public exhibition of these covers, and coincides with the reissue of the iconic books. Expect Daleks, Cybermen and everything in between. £7/£5, just turn up, 10.30am (12pm on Sunday)-5.30pm

CANALWAY CAVALCADE: Ride London's canals this weekend at the IWA Canalway Cavalcade with decorated boats, competitions, parades and Punch and Judy. There are also food stalls, real ale bars and a teddy bear's picnic. We especially like the sound of the procession of illuminated boats. Free, just turn up, 10am

BAFTA: Whether you want to get into TV, film or games — or you're just interested to hear from pros in these industries — head to BAFTA for Guru Live this weekend. This three-day event features masterclasses, panels and keynotes from some of the best in these industries, including previous BAFTA winners. £6 (per session), prebook, 10am-6pm

FOOD MARKET: For a bank holiday Barcelona style, head to Old Spitalfields Market where there's a long weekend of tasty treats at La Boqueria Market. Scoff tapas, street food and loads of other fresh produce. Free, just turn up, 12pm, until 2 May

CRAFT AND CABARET: Turn all Blue Peter this afternoon, with accompanying entertainment at Crafternoon Cabaret Club. Learn how to make wall hangings embroidered with your favourite slogan, while getting inspired by toe-tapping cabaret at The Book Club. £15, prebook, 2pm

THE DARKEST UNIVERSE: Bold, beautiful, witty, dark and surreal — The Darkest Universe is the new film from Will Sharpe (writer and star of new sitcom Flowers) and Tom Kingsley, and tonight it has its world premiere at Picturehouse Central. After you've seen the film, chat to writer, director and cast. £18, prebook, 6.30pm

ERROL LINTON: 50s Chicago blues meets Jamaican reggae rhythms at Camden's Green Note tonight. Errol Linton is a regular feature on British radio with his albums considered 'British blues milestones'. £9, just turn up, 7.30pm

COMEDY: "This show will change your life," claims Mark Dolan with the title of his Udderbelly laughfest. Statistically, he's halfway through his days, after just turning 40, so how's he making the second half of his life even better? CROYDON AIRPORT: It's the monthly open day at Croydon Airport Visitor Centre so pop down to take a look at the world's oldest air traffic control tower, and interactive displays charting the site's history. Free, just turn up, 11am-4pm

MILKMAIDS: Starting at Islington's Compton Arms around lunchtime, watch the traditional Islington Milkmaids Garland — traditional May Day dancers — as they wind their way down Upper Street bringing in spring. Free to watch, just turn up, check website for times

DEPTFORD JACK: Another traditional British May Day celebration, join the procession with Deptford Jack-In-The-Green and Fowler's Troop as they travel through Deptford and Greenwich. GORILLA CIRCUS: Learn to fly this Sunday. Gorilla Circus Flying Trapeze School teaches circus skills high above Regent's Park. STEAMING DAY: A rare chance to see a Victorian steam pumping engine in action at Markfield Beam Engine and Museum this Monday. This Grade II-listed building has been fully renovated and restored, keeping many of its original features. Free, just turn up, engine steaming from 12.30pm

CAR RALLY: Regent Street will be alive with the sound of revving this bank holiday as Gumball 300 rolls into London. Watch the cars parade through central London on this leg of the Dublin to Bucharest Rally. Free, just turn up, 12pm-10pm

BRIXTON BEER: Brixton Windmill is 200 years old, so why not have a beer and bread festival to celebrate? Windmill Gardens will be crammed with Brixton breweries, pint purveyors and local loaf makers. There'll be a huge range of brews to try and buy, with live music to wash it all down. Free, just turn up, 1pm-5pm

FANTASTIC VOYAGE: 50 years since sci-fi adventure Fantastic Voyage hit screens, The Victoria shows this classic film accompanied by a talk from science fiction scholar Professor Edward James, examining the history of shrinking in film. £3.50, prebook, 7.30pm
