The Houses of Parliament are in need of a serious refurb.
The restoration project, which might cost the taxpayer as much as £5.7bn, would require our politicians to find a new home for up to six years.
Step in architects Studio Egret West who have come up with a daring new plan to relocate the Houses of Parliament to Bristol.
The architects' project aims for a bonkers "21st century building that promotes greater accountability, visibility and connectivity between politicians and people".
The HoP Bristol drawings show a hill, which visitors are invited to climb in order to look down into the speaker's theatre (which will "encourage collective decision-making"); a debating chamber inspired by a clearing in the woods (meaning more "cross-party cooperation"); and, as with all new buildings being conceived at the moment, there'll be "flexible workspaces, visitor facilities, a hotel and restaurants".
The team HoP Bristol suggest that this solution to the restoration problem could save billions of pounds.
