Heard of The Two Puddings? The notorious Stratford pub has been immortalised in a documentary feature film which makes its premiere this weekend.
Tales From The Two Puddings explores the heyday of the pub in the 1960s, a time when it was known for its loud live music and famous patrons — footballers, boxers, musicians and writers all supped inside its walls, but that's not to say it was an upmarket place. It was nicknamed 'The Butcher Shop' due to the amount of blood spilt inside.
The film tells some of the pub's human stories; how Harry Redknapp met his wife there; how Jackie Charlton celebrated there after the 1966 World Cup win; how singer David Essex made his performing debut there.
It's based on the memoirs of Eddie Johnson, landlord of the pub throughout its heyday, from when his family took over in 1962.
The film also features Matt Johnson of 80s supergroup The The, Barrie Keeffe (writer of The Long Good Friday), and boxer Sammy McCarthy. Reggie Kray even makes a brief appearance.
The Two Puddings had its world premiere at Stratford Picture House on 25 June as part of the East End Film Festival. Details about screenings in July can be found here.
