Fulham Gastro Pub Is London's Best, Say Awards
The Harwood Arms in Fulham: London's finest gastropub?

Fulham's Harwood Arms won Top Bar or Pub in the first ever Harden's London Restaurant Awards yesterday.

The pub — famed for its wooden slabs piled high with rare roast beef and fluffy Yorkshire puddings — was awarded the prize for "taking pub food to a new level entirely" as a "gastropub on steroids".

12 awards were presented to restaurants and eateries primarily on the basis of their performance in Harden's annual survey of thousands of restaurant-goers, with the final judgement worked out by Harden's editorial team.

Other winners included Milk in Balham taking the prize for Best Brunch ("hands down the best breakfast in SW London"); Department of Coffee won the award for Top Coffee House; and Ham Yard scooped Best Afternoon Tea.

Top Newcomer went to Lee Tiernan's Black Axe Mangal for his "mind-blowingly good" and "off-the-wall" combination of "loud metal and spicy kebabs".

Cheap eats and expensive treats

The awards recognised a wide price range of dining experiences in London, the cheapest being the winner of the Best Street Food category, Mark Gevaux — aka The Rib Man — whose meat rolls start at £7.

And The Araki, the UK's most expensive restaurant, won the Chapel Down award for offering London's Top Gastronomic Experience.

Established eateries in the capital also took gongs, with The Wolseley recognised as Best for Business; Clos Maggiore as Best for Romance; and Mayfair's Guinea Grill won Best Steaks & Grills.

Harden's is the UK's original 'user-generated content' restaurant review site and guide, taking survey feedback from ordinary diners and curating them into reviews and ratings for the past 26 years.
