Do you ever find yourself watching a theatrical performance unfold, wondering what it would be like to be part of the action? Such is the joy of immersive theatre — with the boundaries removed, you move from mere spectator to a participant, a collaborator, or even a potential enemy.

Venice Preserv’d, a new immersive production by The Spectators’ Guild based on Thomas Otway’s Restoration tragedy, challenges the traditional structures of theatre and forces you to choose a side - will you join the Venetian inquisition, or will you side with the rebels?

Your experience will either begin with a boat trip to Greenwich, or at the prow of the Cutty Sark. Join the carnival parade through the streets before rendezvousing under the Italianate arches at the historic riverside venue, Paynes & Borthwick Wharf.

It is here that the story will unfold as the abandoned ship engine factory comes to life once more as a bustling 17th century Venetian metropolis (dress-up is very much encouraged). The carnival may be in town, but it won’t be long before corruption, love, rebellion and betrayal bubbles up to the surface.

With immersive theatre, the cast can make all the difference, so luckily Venice Preserv’d is well equipped with a pretty fine one, including classical actors Ashley Zhangazha (Henry V), Jessie Buckley (Henry V) and Ferdinand Kingsley (Red Velvet).

Want to join the carnival? Two Londonist readers will win a pair of Premium tickets each (which includes the boat trip to Greenwich with Thames Clippers), during the Preview period. To be in with a chance of winning, enter your details below and hit Submit.
