London and its grisly stories are the theme for The Tyburn Tree, a new collaboration between composer/saxophonist John Harle and singer Marc Almond. From public hangings at the Tyburn gallows to the Vampire of Highgate, the Limehouse labyrinths to the dark secret behind ‘London Bridge is Falling Down’ – an interesting London character or place can be found in each song, and the duo are sharing the tales at the Barbican on Sunday 2 March.
And that’s not all, the collaboration has inspired the Barbican to put together an exclusive walk for our competition winners, right before the concert, around the East End and the City with a registered City of London guide. Covering the Ratfcliffe murders, East End poverty and the towering mystery figure of Jack the Ripper, it’s an exploration of London’s dark underbelly and the perfect accompaniment to the evening concert.
Here’s exactly what’s up for grabs: Each of the 10 winners will receive:
- A pair of tickets to the atmospheric walk, 4-6pm on Sunday 2 March, starting from Aldgate tube station
- A pair of tickets to John Harle and Marc Almond’s The Tyburn Tree performance at the Barbican Hall, from 7.30pm on Sunday 2 March
- A copy of The Tyburn Tree album for each winner + guest to take home and enjoy at their leisure
