We walk through vividly coloured corridors and enter rooms with colourful geometric shapes and drawings on the wall.
Camden Arts Centre has been transformed by Nathalie Du Pasquier into what feels like a eye-searing geometric computer simulation brought to life. Everywhere we go our eyes are assaulted by colour, yet it's all clean and crisp. The colours are bright and joyous like yellows, oranges and reds, yet they're all rigidly controlled and kept within straight lines.
It's these contrasts that make the work so intriguing — it's beautiful in its colour, but austere in its conformity. Stunning but sterile. Delineated but we struggle with perspective. We enjoy walking around it, but wouldn't want to live here.
The simplicity of it does make it tricky to get anything more out of this exhibition than the fact that it's a gorgeous installation. But there are subtleties to be found potted around the place with plays on our perception in a few optical illusions. Also all the rooms are noticeably different to each other — whether that's in the colour theme or the objects and drawings within.
This is a beautiful transformation of the galleries and we recommend that visitors let themselves get lost in the colours.
Nathalie Du Pasquier: Other Rooms is on at Camden Arts Centre, Arkwright Road, NW3 6DG until 14 January. Entrance is free and the gallery is open
