Crumbs! London Landmarks Recreated In Cake

Crumbs! Big Ben, The London Eye, a red telephone box and the London Designer Outlet building have all been recreated in cake.

The huge baked sculptures were put together at London Designer Outlet in Wembley to celebrate the shopping centre's fifth birthday.

It took more than 200 hours to put the four cakes together, using 35kg of sponge cake and 120kg of chocolate and icing. Food artist Prudence Staite, who was responsible for the designs said:

London has some of the most instantly recognisable landmarks in the world and it’s been a joy to see a few of these come to life in such a unique way. No birthday is complete without a slice of cake and it’s been a pleasure to help LDO to celebrate its special day in such style.

They're on public display at LDO until Friday 26 October — except for the London Designer Outlet shaped cake, which has already been cut into 300 slices and given out to the public this afternoon.

500 birthday cupcakes will be given out at the shopping centre on Thursday 25 and Friday 26 October.

A life-sized pigeon made of solid chocolate was also created.

Sue Shepherd, Centre Manager at London Designer Outlet, said

We could not be prouder of LDO’s success over the past 5 years and, with LDO now established as a firm favourite with Londoners, there seems no better way to mark this milestone than with a tasty tribute to this fantastic city.
