In Search Of London's Smallest Hotel

Everyone's Airbnbing these days. But what if you're looking for a more exclusive experience — one which has all the charm of a small property, but all the benefits of a fully-fledged hotel? We wonder if any of these are London's smallest hotel...

The pop-up

This one's a bit of a cheat as it's not about anymore. In fact this uber-exclusive hotel only lasted a week. It's the smallest hotel London has ever seen, in one of the city's sweetest spots. Slap bang on the South Bank, opposite the Houses of Parliament, potential guests had to enter a competition to win a stay in this deluxe yet rather narrow hotel.

Two rooms in 40 winks

As for the smallest permanent hotel in London... that might be 40 Winks. At this miniature establishment on Mile End Road — described by German Vogue as "The most beautiful small hotel in the world" — there are only two guest rooms. One of those is just a single, which means that only three people can stay at the hotel at once. Book yourself in for one of its Bedtime Story Nights, where you can prepare for bed with tales for adults, cocktails and canapes (beats Horlicks and biscuits any day).

Smallest room?

Just because a hotel itself isn't too compact, some spots have rooms that definitely aren't for the claustrophobic. Allow us to present Easyhotel — from the people who brought you not quite enough legroom. Many of their London locations have a suite they describe as "small room no window". Never has anything sounded more enticing, especially when you find out it's a cosy 6-7.5sq metres. Not one for spread-eaglers.
