Nowadays kids don't just want to be firefighters or doctors — they're thinking of more innovative and exciting things to do when they're grown up.
The latest exhibition from the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), Invisible Superheroes, hopes to inspire younger generations to consider a career in engineering, and become one of the people that keep our city ticking.
The year-long exhibition, supported by Tideway which officially launches today, tells the story of some of the world's most important civil engineers and their projects, looking at how they've transformed lives and changed our society.
Unfortunately, many of the civil engineers who help to create much of our life-changing infrastructure are unsung heroes, not as prevalent in history lessons as long-gone kings and queens. The superhero theme at ICE's exhibition is all about celebrating these guys. Each engineer has been given a well-deserved alter-ego to show visitors of all ages the amazing capabilities of civil engineers.
Bridgebuilding giant Thomas Telford has become Colussus, and Brunel is recreated as Captain Innovation. Present day stars of the engineering world also feature, such as Infastructo (Andy Mitchell, CEO of Tideway) and Digital Dynamo (Dr. Anne Kemp, Chair of UK BIM Alliance).
