Where To Be Single In London

So. You're single. And happily so. Luckily, London is a city that embraces loners, bachelors, bachelorettes, singletons, and whatever else you want to call yourself. Here are five places to be blissfully alone in London.

1. A book in a nook

Here's nooking at you, kid. Waterstones in Gower Street

That's right, we said nook. Ain't no better place for a singleton to hang out than a nook with a book. May we recommend reading Rapunzel in the turret in Waterstones on Gower Street, or How to Win Friends and Influence People, at You Don't Bring Me Flowers, in Hither Green.

2. Sex toy shopping in Soho

Prowler, a sex shop in Soho. They've got plenty of stuff that'll keep you happy

Just because you're a onesome, doesn't mean you can't have some fun(some). Peruse shelves laden with naughty goodies in Soho — we recommend Prowler or Harmony on Oxford Street — and pick out something that'll ensure you're anything but sorry to be single.

3. Have a nap in a pod

Nighty night

The average Londoner gets just four hours sleep a night. OK, we made that up, but then, who could say no to a nap at 2 o' clock on a Thursday afternoon? Singletons are the perfect fit for these nap pods, where £9 gets you a shower and a power nap in a single bed. Well, if the pods become a reality, anyway.

4. Find a new best friend at Battersea Dogs and Cats Home

Much better than a human

Humans are so overrated. If you're looking for someone who'll love you unconditionally — and not talk over your hilarious work anecdotes — choose a furry friend from Battersea Cats and Dogs Home. Just make sure you don't go OTT, and become Crazy Cat Lady from The Simpsons.

5. Table for one at Flank

Superb food with a side serving of chit-chat, at Flank

Many restaurants and bars across the capital lend themselves to a solo chow-down. But one place of late has really caught our attention: Flank at Spitalfields Market consists of a tiny bar, a few stools, and one heck of a meaty kitchen, often presided over by chef Tom Griffiths. Pull up a seat and gorge yourself on succulent steak, with a side serving of cuisine-related tales. Far better than listening to someone who thinks their work-related anecdotes are hilarious...
