Leicester Square Is Getting An Indiana Jones Statue

The statue will be unveiled to coincide with Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.

A statue of Harrison Ford's action movie hero Indiana Jones will join the throng of other A-listers cast in bronze in Leicester Square, later this summer.

Marking the release of the latest (and last) Indy film, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, the life-sized sculpture has been teased with the placing of a crate, fedora and whip in the central London square this morning (31 May), but won't be properly unveiled, we're told, until 'late June' — closer to the release of the movie (28 June).

Indy's statue will join many other Hollywood greats.

The statue will join a roll-call of other Hollywood greats — including Bugs Bunny sticking his head out of a garden, Mary Poppins drifting upwards with her umbrella, and Gene Kelly swinging around a lamppost a la Singin' in the Rain — which are part of the Scenes in the Square, a (really fun) sculpture trail that launched in 2020. Up until then, the only statue of a Hollywood star you could see around here was John Doubleday's likeness of Charlie Chaplin, crafted in 1979 — which, after moving around over the years, has now returned to the centre of Leicester Square.

As for Indy, it doesn't look like he'll be too far from Greggs. "Bakes. Why did it have to be bakes?"
