Having kids in tow shouldn't mean you can't sample the best brunches London has to offer. And boy, do these places have some good brunches. Park the pram and get stuck in.

Serpentine Bar & Kitchen, Hyde Park

Shakshuka is on the menu, so you can be confident in the brunch game here. Being in Hyde Park, it's a perfect stop for a family, with lots of space to play around in, far from traffic and congestion. Breakfast is served 8-11.30am every day of the week. All the brunch classic are here, from scrambled eggs with smoked salmon to oh-so-sticky French toast with syrup and bacon.

Granger and Co, Notting Hill

Eternal brunch hotspot Granger and Co. is family-friendly, hoorah! You're in good company here, with young families flocking here of a weekend for a taste of their menu. Fresh, zingy ingredients give a welcome overhaul to breakfast classics like ricotta hotcakes with banana and honey, or potato and feta rosti with poached eggs. Don't miss the bakery section either — the fried egg and bacon brioche roll is a total treat while the fresh baked muffin is worth taking home for later. Heads up: this place doesn't take bookings so it's worth getting there early doors.

Rochelle Canteen, Shoreditch

You can't get child-friendlier than an old school, and the Victorian canteen at the former Rochelle School is a great place to relax and eat, with a pleasant enclosed outside area for prams and play. It's run by events and catering company Arnold and Henderson, and simple yet fresh breakfast offerings like eggs on toast and yoghurt with poached fruit keep the adults hooked too.

Barbican Kitchen, Barbican

Brutalist architecture and child-friendly hangouts don't seem like a natural mix, but hear us out. Barbican Centre is a family delight — the warren of walkways and Escher-like staircases a veritable playground for young visitors. Inside the art galleries are great for kids, while the Barbican Kitchen is a prime brunch spot. Wraps, jacket potatoes and sarnies reign, but the real treat is that kids under 12 eat free for every adult ordering a main meal.

The Sun of Camberwell, Camberwell

This place has long been a hangout for arty types, and their main menu — available from noon on weekends — has plenty of brunch-worthy options. Hot smoked salmon with tomato and avocado salsa, or hash of the day with poached egg and hollandaise may be enough to tempt you. How about a whole baked camembert for brekkie? We won't tell. It's roomy and airy inside and has beer gardens front and back to accommodate your crew.

Tom's Kitchen, Chelsea

Led by renowned British chef, Tom Aikens, this Chelsea eatery has an ace up its sleeve when it comes to family-friendly brunch. Not only is the dedicated brunch menu delicious (hello croque monsieur and blueberry pancakes), not only is there unlimited tea and coffee for adults, but kids under 10 eat free from the children's menu every weekend between 9.30-11am.

Dishoom, King's Cross

Dishoom is consistently excellent, which makes it consistently busy. But the King's Cross outlet is absolutely massive, the open-air bustle allows for younger guests who may want to let loose, plus the menu is surprisingly child friendly. Staff are happy to recommend milder dishes, although chances are the bacon naan roll will catch young diners' attention right off the bad. Just round the corner, the excellent water fountain installation outside St Martin's provides a perfect post-meal splash around.

Caravan, King's Cross

A stone's throw from Dishoom and in prime location for those St Martin's water fountains, is Caravan. As with most eateries that call the redeveloped areas north of King's Cross home, it's pretty trendy. But that doesn't stop families coming out in force, judging by the number of buggies here at brunch time. Big and little diners alike can choose between buttermilk vanilla hotcakes, chorizo and broccoli hash, plus veggie and meaty full english breakfasts that'll see you all through to dinner time.

Cinnamon Bazaar, Covent Garden

The breakfast menu at this place isn't pulling any punches, with warm parathas filled with radishes, lamb, coconut, and, of course, eggs. They're also diligently child-friendly, leaving the whole brood to slurp away at your sweet lassis in peace.
