Does 'The Best Pizza In The World' Live Up To The Hype? L’Antica Pizzeria da Michele London 4

The best pizza in the world. That’s the claim made about — although not necessarily by — L’Antica Pizzeria da Michele, which rocked up in Stoke Newington to much hype earlier this year.

Hailing from Naples, it was catapulted to fame by the novel (and film) Eat Pray Love — but are the claims true? It’s certainly different to the Americanised pizzas we’re used to — it’s doughier, with a barbecue taste to the base, and the toppings are sloppy (in a good way — or at least we think so). If you're eating with your hands, the toppings force you to do so the Italian way, folding the slices and slipping them into your mouth.

A word of warning: Da Michele doesn't take bookings for groups smaller than six, so be prepared to queue after 6pm on weekdays, and anytime at weekends.

Things are kept simple, with only two pizzas to choose from (basically; cheese, or no cheese), making for a quick turnaround, and the portion sizes are huge — trust us, and stick to a ‘regular’. But the best in the world? We’ll get back to you when we’ve tried every one.

L’Antica Pizzeria da Michele London, 125 Stoke Newington Church Street, N16 0UH.
