Janis Joplin, The Kinks, Eddy Grant and Buzzcocks are among artists who'll get stars on Camden's growing Music Walk of Fame.
The Walk of Fame — a play on the Hollywood Walk of Fame — can be found around 178 Camden High Street, where it currently pays tribute to David Bowie, Soul II Soul, Madness, The Who, and the late Camden-based singer-songwriter, Amy Winehouse.
Between 4-9 September 2023, 11 more record-shaped plaques will be laid along Camden High Street, for Janis Joplin, Harvey Goldsmith and UB40 (4 Sept); Gordon Mac (founder of Kiss FM) and DJ Paul 'Trouble' Anderson (5 Sept), The Sugarhill Gang (6 Sept), Eddy Grant (7 Sept), Buzzcocks and The Kinks (8 Sept); and Billy Bragg and Shalamar (9 Sept).
Eventually, the plan is for the Music Walk of Fame to stretch from Mornington Crescent to Chalk Farm. As you may've noticed, while some acts are London born and bred, others definitely aren't. Joplin, for instance, only ever played one solo London gig... and it wasn't in Camden. Red carpet events are promised, so fingers crossed some of these music legends show up on the day.
On 9 September, the final day of inductions, there'll also be an inaugural Camden Music Festival — an all-dayer featuring free performances from Jazzie B (Founder of Soul II Soul) and Rusty Egan (Blitz Music Machine). The main stage will be on Hawley Crescent, with DJs spinning records on Camden High Street. Other local venues getting in on the act include the Dublin Castle and one of Amy Winehouse's favourite haunts, The Good Mixer.
