Since the 1960s, Croydon has become renowned, and indeed notorious, for its skyscrapers, including Apollo House, No. 1 Croydon and Saffron Square.
All the above will cower in the shadow of One Lansdowne Road — a twin-tower 68/42-storey build, which has been given the green light by Croydon Council's planning committee.
At its tallest, One Lansdowne Road will be 236 metres — the same height at One Canada Square in Canary Wharf.
Though it's being feted by some as what-will-be Britain's second-tallest building after The Shard, it will actually be the third-tallest, assuming 22 Bishopsgate in the City of London is completed by then.
Plans for One Lansdowne Road boast 917 apartments, and 200,000 sq ft of office space. The developers also promise "the highest bar/restaurant in London on the 65th and 66th floors and viewing gallery on the 67th floor." Oh, and a glass-bottomed swimming pool spanning the office atrium.
Construction could commence before the end of 2018. First, the plans must pass muster with the Mayor of London's office.
