My London: Georgia Cummings

This is part of our new series focusing on Londoners and your London: what you love about the city, what drives you mad, where you go to get away from it all...

Potage: the Battersea railway arch business delivering healthy lunches across London.

Georgia Cummings is the founder of Potage, a healthy food delivery service based in Battersea.

What's your history with London - always lived here, came here as an adult..?

I was born at St. Thomas' Hospital and have lived here most of my life.

Where do you spend most of your time in London?

I live in Notting Hill and spend a lot of time at Potage HQ, under a railway arch in Battersea.

What brought you to London, or keeps you here?

My family are all here and I love knowing they are so close and that seeing them is so easy. I also find London incredibly energising — don’t get me wrong, I do need a break from time to time but there’s so much going on and so many interesting people.

I could go on and on. Perhaps my final reason is that, with everything so local I love being able to walk almost everywhere — the cinema, a friend's house, the shops, a bar — and all the spontaneous things you happen upon as a result.

If you could own any building in London, what would it be?

I’d be happy to own any building in London! But if I could really choose, maybe The Orangery in Holland Park

Where in London do you go to get peace and quiet?

My flat, any green space or my favourite shop Books for Cooks - it has a small cafe in the back and serves the best lunch. We are so lucky to have so many green spaces in London; some of the ones I like most are Hyde Park, Richmond Park, Kew Gardens, and I recently became a member of Chelsea Physic Garden.

What's happened to you recently in London that made you go 'wow’?

A recent tour of the Sipsmith Distillery in Chiswick.

If you weren't in your current job, what would you be doing instead?

I'd love to work with my mum. She started a company called Nurole — their goal is to connect individuals to board and C-level roles through the power of recommendation. We both worked from her basement for a year and it was so exciting to watch how that sort of business grows.

What's your strangest London memory?

Seeing a shark in the Thames.

Here be sharks?

What's the best thing you've eaten or drunk recently?

Our hot smoked salmon salad with brown rice and guacamole is hard to beat.

What does a usual working day for you look like?

Every day is different. Today my radio went off at 6.30am and I was out the house by 7 am. It was lovely and sunny so I walked to work, it takes 90 minutes but I go through two parks and I really enjoy the thinking time. I arrived at work at 8.30am and it’s been pretty non stop since — a mix of helping our operations team, talking to customers, meeting people and thinking about strategy. However busy we are, we always sit down together, as a team, to eat lunch. In the summer we sit outside, such a nice break away from our computers. I try to leave the office by 6.30pm and drop in to see a friend or one of my family on the way home.
