The Grove

The Grove

Part of our Best Pubs in London microsite. See if we've included your local.

With its exposed brickwork and tasteful blue-and-green shades, the Grove is every inch the modern-day gastropub. But it also feels like something more.

The pub is spacious enough that it never falls into the trap of feeling like a restaurant — with the exception of the back room, which is set aside as a dedicated dining area. A mix of massive tables and small twosomes further encourages the air of a pub for all seasons and reasons.

Look around and the Grove reveals further personality. A small alcove to the right looks purpose-built for shuffleboard, and is advertised with a lightbox reading 'Push it, push it real good'. The beer garden, complete with BBQ, would rank as one of the most pleasant in the area, if this were not an area unusually blessed with such things.

The ale makes CAMRA's Good Beer Guide, though several were off on our visit. The pub is better known for its gins, with over 40 to choose among. Food comes in at the £14/£15 per main price point, and includes tempting variations on British classics.
