5 Reasons Why Tower Bridge Is The Perfect Family Day Out This Spring

This is a sponsored article on behalf of Tower Bridge Exhibition.

This is one London attraction that needs no introduction.

You've seen it on TV, you've seen it in films, you've seen it in person... heck, you might've even driven over it. Tower Bridge is the very definition of a London icon — but have you ever been inside?

That's right: London's famous river crossing is packed full of fascinating exhibitions, rooms to explore and spectacular views. It really does make for the perfect family day out this spring, and let us give you five reasons why:

1. Family activity days that help bring the bridge's history to life

Tower Bridge Exhibition's Family Learning Programme is a monthly series of themed one-day events taking place at the attraction. Visitors can step inside the bridge and explore its fascinating history through exciting hands-on activities. They also host autism-friendly early openings on selected Saturdays.

Family activity days will be taking place on Saturday 21 April, Saturday 19 May, Saturday 16 June and Saturday 21 July, 10am-4pm. Themes to be confirmed.

2. The new family ticket that means you can visit for less

Think a day out in the capital costs a small fortune? Think again. Tower Bridge Exhibition's family tickets mean that a family of four can visit for as little as £22 — less than the price of a single adult ticket to rival London attractions.

Entry price is inclusive of all the aforementioned family activities, too. Plus, the new Family Activity Pass means that those taking part can come back again for free on any other Family Activity Day within the next six months. A bargain, if ever we saw one.

3. Family tours that help you make the most of your visit

There's lots to see inside Tower Bridge, so why not explore with the help of a friendly tour guide? For just £4 extra per person, families can enjoy specially-curated interactive tours led by a member of the Learning Team, giving valuable — and entertaining — insights into the history of Tower Bridge and how it works.

There won't be any bored little ones here.

Family tours will be taking place on Tuesday 3 April and Tuesday 10 April. Tours must be booked in advance, and start at 10.30am and run for 1 hour and 30 minutes.

4. 'Ask A Techie' events that are full of unique insights

A glimpse at Tower Bridge's epic machinery is one thing. Understanding how it all works is another...

Drop-in sessions with some of the bridge's expert engineers mean you can pitch your questions to those in-the-know, and learn all about what goes on behind the scenes. As the ones who keep the bridge in working order, these guys certainly know their stuff. You'll find them in the atmospheric Engine Rooms, which feature the bridge's original steam engines, coal burners and accumulators.

Drop in sessions will be taking place during the Easter holidays on Friday 30 March, Monday 2 April, Thursday 5 April and Tuesday 10 April. Free with ticket entry.

5. The bridge's daredevil glass floor

Situated 42 metres above the Thames, this one isn't for the faint-hearted. Glass floors span the bridge's high-level walkways, giving you a birds-eye view of life on the river. It's great fun for thrill-seeking teens or adventurous little-ones, and there's no need to worry — the heavy duty glass panels can withstand the weight equivalent of two London Black Cabs!

Ready to plan your trip? Tower Bridge is open to visitors from 9.30am-5pm October-March, and 10am-5.30pm April-September. Click here to find out more.
