What we're reading:

Things to do:

FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHY DAY: This photography workshop offers an ace parent-child bonding opportunity, while teaching you a new skill. Get inspired by the National Maritime Museum's Great British Seaside exhibition before learning how to creatively capture colour on camera. National Maritime Museum (Greenwich), £60 for one child (age 8-13) and adult, book ahead, 10am-4pm, until 18 August

HOW TO WIN AT BREAK UPS: How do you get over the crushing demise of your relationship? With the help of four girls, one sofa, and a cardboard cutout of Tom Hiddleston, apparently. Don't worry, it's nothing rude — merely a comedy show incorporating real life break up advice doled out by young women, with terrible Tinder encounters thrown in for good measure. Etcetera Theatre (Camden), £8, book ahead, 2.30pm, until 17 August

BEER AND BAGELS: Get your gnashers around one of NYC's finest bagels in the last of The Good Egg's beer and bagels collabs. £15 gets you a local craft beer, a side (we'll have the tahini mac 'n' cheese, please), and Black Seed Bagel's breakfast sausage, egg, and aged white cheddar offering. The Good Egg (Soho), £15, book ahead, 6pm-11pm

ON MOTHER'S DAY: This challenging piece of physical theatre arose from seven years of correspondence between writer Saaramaria Kuittinen and several convicts on death row. You'll meet Ramón, a man sentenced to death who, after a lifetime spent running from violence, finds it within himself. The Cockpit (Marylebone), £15, book ahead, 7pm, until 16 August

RANDOM ACTS: Short attention span? That's not an issue with Channel 4's Random Acts — mini film masterpieces featuring digital art, dance, comedy, and internet cats. A handful of directors and the series commissioner will be in attendance to discuss their work, and your ticket includes a Grey Goose cocktail. The  Somerset House, £10, book ahead, 7pm-8pm

Catch a film in Guildhall Yard.

LAYDEEZ DO COMICS: Join the first women-led graphic novel forum in the UK for a range of talks celebrating the work of female cartoonists. Academic Astrid Schmetterling will discuss the extraordinary work of Charlotte Salomon, while Corinne Pearlman, Creative Director of Myriad Editions, chats about their latest publication, The Inking Woman. Jewish Museum (Camden), free, book ahead, 7pm-9.15pm

SPIDERS: A decidedly unlikely pair find themselves squatting together in this two-person show that navigates growing up, violence, and the nature of suffering. Tristan Bates Theatre (Seven Dials), £10, book ahead, 7.45pm, until 18 August

HEROINES OF CINEMA: Popup Screens is kicking off its series of empowering women's films with an alfresco screening of Wonder Woman. See Gal Gadot save the world in the iconic role as you recline on a deckchair at the site of London's Roman amphitheatre. Guildhall Yard, £15, book ahead, 8.45pm

SICILIAN GHOST STORY: In a tiny south Italian village, the son of an ex-Mafia informant vanishes into thin air, and it's left up to his schoolmate and admirer, Luna, to find him. This Italian drama caused quite the stir at Cannes, and tonight you can see it yourself. Genesis Cinema (Stepney Green), £9, book ahead, 9pm

DIVA REGINA: Let this comedy queen serenade you in multiple languages with a sultry voice tinged with Brexit despair. Diva Regina's first ever solo cabaret show, Work Permit In Progress, explores language and foreignness, and it'll hopefully help her get a much-coveted British passport. The Albany (Fitzrovia), £6, book ahead, 9.30pm (repeated tomorrow)

Good cause of the day
