FIRST THURSDAYS: Follow the tote-swinging, hip looking crowds through the streets of east London every first Thursday and you'll find free booze (if you're quick enough) and eclectic contemporary art. Whitechapel Gallery (and other galleries around the area), free, just turn up, 6pm-9pm

VEGAN TAP TAKEOVER: Head to Camden to get your fill of delicious vegan beer and food on the final night of BrewDog's vegan tap takeover. BrewDog Bar Camden, free entry, just turn up, 6pm-midnight

Swap the January detox for a Fromage à Trois cheese party.

FROMAGE A TROIS: Take part in a DIY mozzarella masterclass (in a waterproof playroom — in case things get messy) and indulge in the French cheese specialty, aligot, at this fromage feast hosted by Shoreditch restaurant Rascals and cheesemonger The Urban Cheese Maker. Rascals, from £29, book ahead, 6.30pm-10.30pm, every Thursday until 29 March

SOCIAL HOUSING DEBATE: With the housing crisis still in full swing, this panel looks at the legacy of pioneering British architect Neave Brown, who passed away last month. How can his housing ideals and innovative architectural philosophy offer solutions for today? RIBA, £25/£20/£16, book ahead, 7pm-9.30pm

SPARK-A-OKE: Writers Sophia Blackwell, Susie Boyt, Paul Burston and other wax lyrical on the genius of the late novelist Muriel Spark, who would be turning 100 today. The Bookseller Crow On The Hill (Crystal Palace), free, just turn up, 7.30pm-9.30pm

BEING LGBTQ LAUNCH: Watch music vids from Russia's 90s gay scene, hear a reading of feminist sci-fi stories from Central Asia and see a performance from Poland's most famous drag queen, to celebrate the launch of a new project celebrating LGBTQ culture from The Calvert Journal. The Queen Adelaide (Cambridge Heath), free, book ahead, 8pm-3am

DECONSTRUCTING PATTERNS: Who knew a fruit fly could be so beautiful? Enter a world of microscopic patterns not usually seen by the naked eye in this stunning exhibition, which muses on the relationship between artists and scientists.
