Attaboy, Virgin Trains.

The script from the heart-wrenching Christmas classic, It's a Wonderful Life, will be painted on platforms on the Virgin Trains West Coast route between Euston and Glasgow. Printed behind the yellow lines at 14 stations, the words themselves will stretch for 7.5 kilometres in all.

It's a Wonderful Life: the greatest Christmas film ever - and no arguments

The opening lines of Frank Capra's 1946 masterpiece, which begins: "I owe everything to George Bailey. Help him, dear Father," will start out at Euston. The final lines, ending on Jimmy Stewart's iconic "Attaboy, Clarence!" will be appear at one of the platforms at Glasgow.

Other memorable lines from the film include: "Oh, youth is wasted on the wrong people!", "A happy new year to you...in jail!" and "Every time a bell rings, an angel gets his wings."

There's a serious message behind the campaign; it's been developed with Virgin Trains' charity partner,
Rethink Mental Illness, and recognises how tough the festive period can be for some, and the positive impact that simple acts of kindness can have. A URL embedded in the script will lead people to information, advice, and support around mental health. Famously, It's a Wonderful Life has been 'prescribed' to people suffering from anxiety and depression.

The lines will be painted one day at a time on the following dates, at the following stations:

  • London Euston – 22 November
  • Rugby – 23 November
  • Birmingham International – 27 November
  • Birmingham New Street – 28 November
  • Stafford – 29 November
  • Stoke-on-Trent – 30 November
  • Crewe – 3 December
